Mine Description

The Leghorn mine, about 1 3/4 miles north of Cherry, is reported to have been Worked intermittently, with some production, from 1904 to 1918, and to a small extent in 192418. Lindgren says: “The Vein is Contained in granite and has been opened by an incline 600 feet long, dipping 35° W. In Weed’s Mines Handbook for 1922 it is stated that there are 6,000 feet of workings. A Chilean mill has been erected on the property. . . . The vein is said to average 2 feet in width. The quartz contains chalcopyrite and gold, but it is probable that difficulties were encountered below the zone of oxidation. Specimens from the dump Show abundant solution cavities filled with hematite and secondary quartz.”
