White Oak Flat is in north-central Amador Counry about 10 miles northeast of Volcano. Several moderate-sized deposits of Tertiary channel gravels were mined years ago. There are several gold-quartz deposits including the Marklee mine, which was prospected recently. Bedrock consists of slate, chert, and quartzite. In places the gravels arc overlain by andesite and rhyolite.
