Comments

Comment (Location): 120 MILES NORTHEAST OF BILLINGS, 50 MILES SOUTHEAST OF MALTA

Comment (Reserve-Resource): YEAR END 1991: 110 MILLION TONS AT A GRADE OF .018 OZ GOLD PER TON. METAL RESERVES:2,005,752 OZ GOLD.

Comment (Workings): HISTORICALLY THE ZORTMAN AND LANDUSKY DEPOSITS HAVE BEEN TREATED AS A SINGLE OPERATION. IN THE PAST MINING HAS NORMALLY BEEN CARRIED OUT AT ONE DEPOSIT WHILE EXPLORATION AND SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENT WAS CARRIED OUT AT THE OTHER. AT PRESENT (1993) MINING IS TAKING PLACE ON THE LANDUSKY SIDE WHILE THE ZORTMAN EXPANSION PROJECT IS BEING COMPLETED. ORE MINED FROM THE OPEN PITS AT THE ZORTMAN/LANDUSKY MINE IS HAULED TO NEARBY LEACH PADS. THE ORE REQUIRES NO CRUSHING AND/OR AGGLOMERATING AFTER BLASTING AND CAN BE PROCESSES AS RUN-OF-MINE MATERIAL. AFTER THE ORE HAS BEEN PLACED ON THE PAD, A SPRINKLER AND DRIP SYSTEM APPLIES AN ALKALINE CYANIDE SOLUTION TO DISSOLVE GOLD AND SILVER. THE GOLD AND SILVER SOLUTION IS GRAVITY-FED OR PUMPED TO A PREGNANT POND OR DIRECTLY TO A CARBON RECOVERY PLANT.

Comment (Geology): THE HOST ROCKS ARE TERTIARY HYPABYSSAL INTRUSIONS OF MARGINALLY-ALKALINE SYENITE AND QUARTZ MONZONITE, INTO WHICH PHREATIC BRECCIA VEINS AND DIKES HAVE BEEN EMPLACED.
