Comments

Comment (Production): PARTIAL PRODUCTION RECORD. FIGURES UNAVAILABLE FOR YEARS PRIOR TO 1967. NO PRODUCTION REPORTED IN 1957 AND 1975.

Comment (Location): MINE LIES ALONG BIG CASINO GULCH ABOUT 1000 FT ABOVE CONFLUENCE WITH HENSON CREEK. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :1977

Comment (Deposit): DEPOSIT LIES JUST OUTSIDE RIM OF LAKE CITY CALDERA IN UNCOMPAHGRE CALDERA INFILL ROCKS COMPOSED OF EUREKA MEMBER RHYOLITE AND PICAYUNE MEGABRECCIA, COMPOSED OF CHAOTIC MASSES OF PRECALDERA INTERMEDIATE-COMPOSITION ROCKS INTERPRETED TO BE RESULT OF SLUMPING FROM OVERSTEEPENED CALDERA WALLS DURING INITIAL SUBSIDENCE OF UNCOMPAHGRE CALDERA. DEPOSIT IS TRANSVERSE VEIN IN SLACK'S (1980) QUARTZ/BASE-METAL ASSEMBLAGE, INNER QUARTZ-CHALCOPYRITE ZONE. TWO VEINS INTERSECTED: FIRST VEIN TRENDS ABOUT N 45 E AND EXTENDS SW INTO BIG CASINO WORKINGS; SECOND VEIN TRENDS ABOUT EAST-WEST AND DIPS 60 S. EARLIER MINERAL IN VEIN APPEARS TO BE GALENA, BROKEN WITH AREAS OF ARGENTIFEROUS TETRAHEDRITE SCATTERED THROUGH IT, AND SUBORDINATE SPHALERITE AND LITTLE GANGUE.

Comment (Workings): CDM REPORTS DESCRIBE WORKINGS AS NEWER TUNNEL DRIVEN (PRESUMABLY) SOUTH OR SE, INTERSECTING VEIN AT 150 FT FROM PORTAL; BY 1967, 600 FT OF DRIFT WAS DRIVEN TOWARD OLDER BIG CASINO WORKINGS. FROM 1968 TO 1977, NEWER WORKINGS INCLUDED 20-FT RAISE, AND 60-FT CROSSCUT AT 94 FT FROM PORTAL, OTHER NEWER RAISES AND DRIFTS. OLD TUNNEL IN BIG CASINO GULCH DRIVEN GENERALLY SSW, EXTENT UNKNOWN. IRVING AND BANCROFT (1911) CITE 60-FT SHAFT.
