Comment (Geology): THE SANTA ROSA SANDSTONE IS A MEMBER OF THE TRIASSIC DOCKUM GROUP

Comment (Production): THE STAUBER MINE IS THE MOST NOTABLE COPPER DEPOSIT IN RED BED SANDSTONE IN THE SOUTHWEST.

Comment (Development): GUADALUPE MINING AND PASTURA COPPER WORKED THE EAST AND WEST MINES COOPERATIVELY.

Comment (Deposit): THE STAUBER ORE BODY IS IN A FLAT-LYING SANDSTONE BED EXPOSED AT ONE POINT BY EROSION. THE OVERBURDEN RARELY EXCEEDS 50 FEET. THE EASTERN ORE BODY HAS A COVER OF SOFT CLAY OR SHALE. THE WESTERN OREBODY IS OVERLAIN BY SANDSTONE COVERED WITH CLAY. THE FLOOR THROUGHOUT THE MINE IS A SOFT CLAY. FOLDING IS PROMINENT WITH A PRONOUNCED SYNCLINE BETWEEN THE TWO OREBODIES. MINEABLE GRADE ORE IS 5 TO 14 FEET THICK. LOGS AND OTHER VEGETABLE REMAINS HAVE BEEN MINERALIZED. THE COPPER MINERALS ARE MALACHITE, AZURITE, CHYRSOCOLLA, CHALCOCITE AND TENORITE. THE ORE GRADE HAS VARIED FROM 1 TO 5 PERCENT. THE ORE IS HIGHLY SILICEOUS AND CAN COMMAND PREFERENTIAL SMELTING RATES.

Comment (Workings): WORKINGS CONSIST OF SEVERAL SHAFTS, DRIFTS, INCLINED SHAFTS, SURFACE OPEN PITS AND TRENCHES. IN SOME PARTS OF THE MINE TIMBER STULLS WERE USED DURING PILLAR ROBBING OPERATIONS.
