Comments

Comment (Deposit): MOST OF PRODUCTION CAME FROM ONE PRINCIPAL VEIN STRIKING N40E AND DIPPING STEEPLY TO THE SOUTHEAST. VEIN IS UP TO 8 FT WIDE. VEIN LIES ADJACENT TO A PORPHYRY DIKE. A MINOR VEIN RUNS PARALLEL TO THE VEIN - 5 ORE BODIES WERE REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN FOUND. ORE SAID TO OCCUR IN SCATTERED EGG-SHAPED BANCHES OF ORE FROM A FEW POUNDS TO 600 TONS. ORE IS HIGHLY OXIDIZED AND OCHEROUS. SOME SULFIDES FOUND BENEATH WATERTABLE

Comment (Workings): TWO ADITS SHOWN ON MAP. UTM COORDINATES GIVEN FOR LOWER TUNNEL PORTAL. UPPER TUNNEL PORTAL LOCATED NEAR WHIRLWIND PORTAL. BY 1880 THE TOTAL WORKINGS WERE 20,000 FT. NUMEROUS DRIFTS, SHAFTS, AND INCLINES LOCATED ALONG FISSURE AS WELL AS A LARGE STOPE AREA

Comment (Geology): MINE OCCURS IN A DOWNDROPPED BLOCK OF MISSIPPIAN LIMESTONE BOUND TO THE NORTH BY THE DUTCHMAN FAULT AND TO THE WEST BY THE WHIRLWIND FAULT.

Comment (Production): ADDITIONAL ARE PRODUCED BETWEEN 1917 AND 1942, PROBABLY A SMALL TONNAGE

Comment (Development): AFTER DISCOVERED, THE PROPERTY WAS SOLD TO THE OMAHA SMELTING AND REFINING CO. WHO WORKED IT CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL 1876. AFTER 1876 THE PROPERTY WAS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL 1942 BY VARIOUS LESSEES.

Comment (Location): TOWNSHIP UNSURVEYED. UTM COORDINATES GIVEN FOR CARD ARE FOR MAIN PORTAL-LOWER TUNNEL OF DUTCHMAN MINE. UTM COORDINATES OF THE TUNNEL ARE 4486500 N, 448800 E ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :1983
