Comment (Deposit): AT LEAST 3 ENCEHELON LENTICULAR AU-BEARING QUARTZ-SULFIDE BODIES (N70W,65S) ALONG MAJOR FAULT IN CRETACEOUS METAMORPHIC ROCKS. ORE IN A STRONG ZONE OF SHEARED AND PYROMETAMORPHOSED SANDSTONE AND GRAPHITIC SHALE ALONG A MAJOR FAULT.

Comment (Workings): 5 TUNNELS, NO SHAFTS, IN STEEP HILLSIDE SLOPING SOUTH. DEPTH OF WORKINGS AT LEAST 500 FT, AT LEAST 3000 FT TOTAL WORKING LENGTH, PROBABLY MORE

Comment (Production): THIS MINE WAS THE MAJOR GOLD PRODUCER OF THE DISTRICT WITH SOME 10,000 TONS PRODUCED SPORADICALLY FROM EARLY 1880'S TO 1950.

Comment (Development): OPERATORS INCLUDED A.J. WELYT, G.D. DIRBY, TED MARSH MINING CO., SUTTON STEELE, C.E. WHEELOCK, C.L. DALLARD, W.R. SHANKLIN, FRANK W. ROTTMAN, GOLD PRINCE MINING AND MILLING CO., OUTWEST MINING COMPANY, AND PHELPS DODGE CORPORATION (1987). THIS SITE WAS LOCATED IN 1878 AS MURPHY MINE. IN 1989, THE MINE WAS ACTIVELY PRODUCING AU-BEARING SILICA FLUX FOR CU SMELTING. 9000 FT OF DIAMOND DRILLING BY PHELPS DODGE CORP. BETWEEN 1983 AND 1986, FOLLOWED BY SAMPLING, MAPPING, AND 6000 FT OF DIAMOND DRILLING BY QUEENSTAKE RESOURCES 1987-1989.
