MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Location): LATITUDE-LONGITUDE determined using PLS and GIS. Estimate based on unlabeled placer workings along NW side of river about 5 mi. east of Loomis in what is now a reservoir. This site location is really questionable. It may not be Smyth Ranch, which does not have a PLS location in source reference. The placer workings in Folio 5 are unlabeled, but these have been identified by an earlier worker as being the same property as in CDMG report. I have no idea how this was done.

Comment (Workings): GIANT PUMP USED TO PIPE GRAVEL INTO PIT FROM WHICH IT WAS DRAWN TO SLUICES.

Comment (Geology): GEOL.DESC: RIVER GRAVELS TESTED - GROUND WORKED WAS DISAPPOINTING.
