Comments

Comment (Workings): AREA WAS ORIGINALLY EXPLORED BY A FEW SHALLOW SHAFTS, LATER SHORT ADITS WERE EXTENDED INTO THE HILL AND MORE RECENT EXPLORATION HAS BEEN DONE IN THE SAME AREA BY BULLDOZING. MAIN OPENING IN 1981 WAS AN OPEN CUT 100 FT WIDE, 70 FT INTO HILL ON SOUTH SIDE, WHICH DUG OUT ABOUT AN OLD ADIT, SOME OF WHICH REMAINS. FOUR SHALLOWER DOZER CUTS ABOVE MAIN ONE. VERY SMALL 2-PIPE RETORT ON PROPERTY WITH SMALL PILE OF BURNT ORE.

Comment (Deposit): SEDIMENTARY ROCKS ARE CONSIDERABLY SHEARED AND CONTAIN HARD BLOCKS AND LENSES OF SILICIFIED LIMESTONE AND QUARTZITE LOCALLY STAINED WITH JAROSITE AND IRON OXIDES. MAIN FRACTURES TREND NORTHERLY AND DIP EASTWARD. THE ORIGINAL MINING DONE HERE FOLLOWED A LIMESTONE-SHALE CONTACT ALONG WHICH CINNABAR OCCURRED AS COARSE CRYSTALS DISSEMINATED IN THE LIMESTONE. IN 1981, VERY LITTLE LIMESTONE OR CINNABAR WAS VISIBLE IN THE BULLDOZED EXPOSURES.

Comment (Location): NE OF FENCEMAKER CYN ROAD ON SMALL HILL.

Comment (Production): A FEW FLASKS OF MERCURY WERE PRODUCED.

Comment (Development): FIRST DEVELOPED AS THE VICTORY PROSPECT BY ITS LOCATORS IN 1943-44, BUT ABANDONED WITHOUT PRODUCTION. IN 1956, CURTIS DAVIS AND C.R. CARPENTER LOCATED THE 4 LINDA K. CLAIMS APPARENTLY ON THIS GROUND AND IN 1957 THEY REPORTED PRODUCTION OF A COUPLE OF FLASKS HG. THE LINDA K. PROPERTY WAS LEASED TO UTEX URANIUM IN 1959 BUT TITLE WAS DROPPED AFTER 1960. IN 1963 THE GROUND WAS RELOCATED BY E.J. BOTTOMLY AND R.J. STORMS. FROM 1967 TO 1970 EXPLORATION AND PERHAPS SOME MINING DONE HERE BY CANYON STATE MINING CO., BUT SINCE 1957, NO PRODUCTION HAS BEEN RECORDED.
