Comment (Deposit): DEVELOPED BY AN OPEN PIT IN RED HEMATITIC ORE, WHICH WAS ORGINALLY SHIPPED TO SALT LAKE TO BE USED AS FLUX. FROM 1961 TO 1963 400,000 LONG TONS AVERAGING 63% FE WAS PRODUCED. THE PROPERTY WHICH LIES AT THE JUNCTION OF SAFFORD AND PALISADE CANYONS, AND IS OWNED BY SOUTHERN PACIFIC CO. WAS LOCATED PRIOR TO 1869. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT

Comment (Geology): THE ORE IS A HEMATITE & MAGNETITE REPLACEMENT OF ANDESITE. THE DEPOSIT IS 60 TO 150 FEET THICK, DIPPING 40 DEG TO THE NORTH AND EAST. QUARTZ MONZONITE INTRUDES SIMILAR ROCK ABOUT 1,800 FEET WEST OF THE BARTH PIT.

Comment (Development): RED HEMATITIC ORE WAS ORIGINALLY SHIPPED TO SALT LAKE FOR USE AS A FLUX.
