Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): THE LINKA CONSISTS OF 3 SEPARATE CONTIGUOUS SCHEELITE-HEARING TACTITE OCCURRENCES. THE LINKA DEPOSIT IS NEAR VERTICAL, PARALLELING THE INTRUSIVE CONTACT

Comment (Workings): THE MAIN LINKA PROPERTY IS DEVELOPED BY A 210-FT VERTICAL SHAFT AND ONE WORKING LEVEL AT 150-FT. THE HILLSIDE SECTION TO THE SOUTHEAST IS DEVELOPED BY A 100-FT INCLINED SHAFT AND HAS NO RECORDED PRODUCTION.

Comment (Geology): THE HOST ROCK IS A GARNET-EPIDOTE TACTITE, PERHAPS THE ANTELOPE VALLEY LIMESTONE. IT APPEARS TO BE FOLDED AND FRACTURED WITH BEDDING APPEARING VERTICAL. ORE GRADE MATERIAL HAS BEEN MINED DOWN TO THE 150 FT LEVEL, WHERE CONTACT WITH A HIGHLYFRIABLE, IRON-STAINED, COARSE-GRAINED GRANODIORITE IS EVIDENT. THE CONTACT DIPS 45-50 DEG TO THE ESE. A LATER, POSSIBLY QUARTZ MONZONITE INTRUSIVE IS EVIDENT. ACIDIC DIKES ARE ALSO PRESENT.

Comment (Deposit): TUNGSTEN WAS DISCOVERED IN THE LOW HILLS EAST OF SPENCER HOT SPRINGS BY STEVE LINKA OF AUSTIN, WHO LOCATED THE GARNETITE GROUP OF CLAIMS IN FEBRUARY 1941. SOME EXPLORATION IN 1943. THE PROPERTY WAS ACTIVE INTERMITTENTLY DURING THE NEXT 13 YEARS. IT IS DDEVELOPED BY OPEN PITS AND SHALLOW SHAFTS ALONG AN ORE ZONE THAT STRIKES NORTH AND DIPS MODDERATELY TO STEEPLY WEST. ALTHOUGH THE ORE SHOOTS THAT HAVE BEEN MINED WERE SMALL, THE GRADE WAS GOOD, AND THERE IS A GOOD POSSIBILITY THAT SIMILAR ORE SHOOTS ARE PRESENT ALONG THE CONTACT ZONE NORTH AND SOUTH OF THEMINE. A DEPOSIT WIDTH OF 20-30 FT IS INDICATED. SHAFTS ARE OPEN TO THE 150-FT LEVEL, BUT SUPPOSEDLY REACH TO THE 250-FT LEVEL. SOME STOPES ARE OPEN. DRILLING WAS PROGRESSING IN 1978; THE PROPERTY HAD BEEN CLOSED SINCE 1957. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT
