Comments

Comment (Deposit): Discovery Year: 1872, 1875

Comment (Production): 1885-1892 - $20,000,000 IN SILVER AND GOLD MINED. 1883-1893 - $6,000,000 PRODUCED

Comment (Development): THE GRANITE MOUNTAIN & BIMETALLIC MINES WERE WORKED SEPARATELY UNTIL 1898 - SINCE THEN HAVE WORKED AS ONE; BOTH LOCATED ON SAME ORE BODY. MILL CAPACITY 50 T/D. OPERATOR OF GRANITE TAILINGS: JOE METESH, PHILIPSBURG, MT.

Comment (Geology): PRIMARY ORE IN LOWER PORTIONS OF MINE CARRIES 20-30 OZ/TON AG, $1.50-3.00/TON AU (1906); ENRICHED SULFIDE ORE UP TO SURFACE HAS 50-1000 OZ/TON AG, $4-8/TON AU. ENRICHED OXIDIZED ORE BETWEEN 100-400 FT LEVELS: 300-400 OZ/TON AG, $5-16/TON AU. POOR OXIDIZED ORE AT APEX OF VEIN, AG-AU HAS BEEN GREATLY LEACHED.

Comment (Reserve-Resource): ASSUMING A VEIN 4500 FT LONG BY 1500 FT DEEP BY 3 FT GIVES ABOUT 1,000,000 ST; THE AMOUNT ALREADY MINED. MINING AN ADDITIONAL 300 FT DOWN WOULD GIVE AN ADDITIONAL 200,000 ST WHICH IS BANISTER'S ESTIMATE OF RESOURCES FROM THE 1000 TO 1800 LEVEL. ASSUMING THAT THE VEIN CONTINUED 1500 FT AT A REDUCED LENGTH OF 3000 FT GIVES THE SECOND ESTIMATE OF 1,000,000 ST. GRADE PROBABLY DECREASES WITH DEPTH.

Comment (Location): LOCATION PLOTTED AT RUBY SHAFT. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1971)

Comment (Production): 2 PRODUCTION PERIODS 1883-1893, 1898-1944.

Comment (Deposit): LODE HAS SEVERAL INTERSECTING VEINS WHICH TRANSVERSE THE GRANODIORITE AND JOIN AT SMALL ANGLES. THE GRANITE VEIN IS LARGEST AND RICHEST. IT HAS BEEN STOPED FOR AT LEAST 4500 FT ALONG THE STRIKE AND IN PLACES 2600 FT BELOW THE SURFACE. THE SOUTH VEIN IS THE MOST PRODUCTIVE FISSURE TO JOIN THE GRANITE.

Comment (Exploration): 1875 - DISCOVERED BY HOLLAND, ESTILL, AND MERRILL 1881 - CHARLES CLARK FORMED THE ST. LOUIS SYNDICATE WHO PURCHASED THE GRANITE FOR $40,000 AND SPENT $75,000 ON DEVELOPMENT. 1882 - BIMETALLIC MINING COMPANY ORGANIZED 1885-1892 - $20,000,000 IN SILVER AND GOLD MINED. 1898 - THE GRANITE MOUNTAIN AND THE BIMETALLIC WERE CONSOLIDATED THE GRANITE MOUNTAIN & BIMETALLIC MINES WERE WORKED SEPARATELY UNTIL 1898 - SINCE THEN HAVE WORKED AS ONE; BOTH LOCATED ON SAME ORE BODY. MILL CAPACITY 50 T/D. OPERATOR OF GRANITE TAILINGS: JOE METESH, PHILIPSBURG, MT.

Comment (Workings): WORKED FROM 5 DRIFT TUNNELS, TWO DEEP SHAFTS, AND A LONG ADIT WHICH DRAINS THE GRANITE MINE BETWEEN LEVELS 14 AND 15 AND THE BIMETALLIC MINE AT LEVEL 10.

Comment (Deposit): Merged data from Deposit ID's: 10172926 (Bi-Metallic) 10173358 (Granite Belle Claim) 10019456 (Granite Belle Claim) 10197106 (Granite, Ruby Shaft)

Principal Gold Districts of Montana

In Montana, 54 mining districts have each have produced more than 10,000 ounces of gold. The largest producers are Butte, Helena, Marysville, and Virginia City, each having produced more than one million ounces. Twenty seven other districts are each credited with between 100,000 and one million ounces of gold production. Read more: Principal Gold Districts of Montana.
