Comment (Workings): 8 TUNNELS ?THE MINE HAS ABOUT 24,000 FEET OF DRIFTS AND CROSSCUTS AND SEVERAL THOUSAND FEET OF RAISES AND WINZES. THE MINE IS DIVIDED IN HALF BY THE IDAHO-MONTANA STATE LINE; BOTH SIDES CAN BE REACHED THROUGH THE ADIT OF THE 1,500 LEVEL WHICH HAS ITS PORTAL ABOUT ONE-HALF MILE UPSTREAM FROM THE TOWN OF DUTHIE (IDAHO). ? ALSO, ?THE MONTANA SIDE OF THE MINE IS ALSO ACCESSIBLE THROUGHT HE 100 LEVEL WHICH HAS ITS PORTAL NEAR THE HEAD OF BEAVER CREEK IN MONTANA. THE ORE, HOWEVER, MINED FROM THE MONTANA SIDE IS LOWERED DOWN THROUGH THE MONTANA RAISE TO THE 1500 LEVEL AND OUT TO THE MILL AT DUTHIE. WORKINGS BELOW THE 1,500 LEVEL ON BOTH THE IDAHO AND MONTANA SIDES ARE UNDER WATER.? (CROWLEY (1963) FROM HOSTERMAN (1956)).

Comment (Orebody): Orebodies are shoots with a SE rake (a few have a SW rake) within a vein which pinches and swells from less than 2.5 cm to 3.7 meters wide. Average stoping width was 1.5 meters.

Comment (Deposit): ?THE ORE OCCURS IN SHOOTS WHICH GENERALLY HAVE A SOUTHEASTERN RAKE, ALTHOUGH A FEW ORE SHOOTS HAVE A SOUTHWESTERN RAKE. THIS PATTERN IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE ON THE MONTANA SIDE OF THE MINE WHERE MORE CAREFUL STOPE MAPPING HAS BEEN DONE.? (HOSTERMAN, 1956) ?THE ORE IS COMMONLY, BUT NOT ALWAYS, FOUND ON THE FOOTWALL OF THE SHEAR ZONE, WHICH HAS SEVERAL INCHES OF GOUGE. IN THE STOPES ON THE MONTANA SIDE OF THE MINE SECONDARY SHEARS THAT DIVERGE UPWARD FROM THE MAIN JACK WAITE SHEAR HAVE BEEN OBSERVED. AT THE JUNCTIONS OF THESE SECONDARY SHEARS AND THE MAIN SHEAR ZONE THE COUNTRY ROCK HAS BEEN EXTREMELY BROKEN AND SHATTERED. IT SEEMS QUITE POSSIBLE THAT THESE JUNCTIONS HAVE PLAYED AN IMPORTANT PART IN LOCALIZING THE ORE. SMEARED AND SHATTERED GALENA INDICATES POSTMINERALIZATION MOVEMENT. THE LITHOLOGIC CHARACTER OF THE ENCLOSING ROCKS DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE HAD ANY CONTROL OF THE PLACEMENT OF THE ORE.? (FROM HOSTERMAN, 1956). ?THE MONTANA VEIN SHOWS A TENDENCY TO FOLLOW THE HANGING-WALL, AND THE IDAHO VEIN TO FOLLOW THE FOOT-WALL OF THE MAIN FISSURE.? (TURNER, 1941).

Comment (Deposit): ?MINERALIZATION AT THE JACK WAITE FOLLOWS A STRONG SHEAR ZONE THAT STRIKES ABOUT N60W AND DIPS 45 DEGREES TO 55 DEGREES SW.? (CROWLEY, 1963). ?TURNER (1931, P. 672) CLASSIFIES TWO VEINS AT THE JACK WAITE: THE MONTANA VEIN, WHICH IS THE MOST PROMINENT IN THE EASTERN PORTION OF THE STRUCTURE AND WHICH USUSALLY OCCURS ALONG THE HANGING WALL, AND THE IDAHO VEIN WHICH IS LESS INTENSELY MINERALIZED ALONG THE FOOTWALL. AT SOME PLACES A HORSE OF WASTE SEPARATES THE TWO; THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE TWO IS NOT AS NOTICEABLE IN OTHER PARTS OF THE MINE.? (FROM CROWLEY, 1963). ?THE VEIN STRIKES N55W AND DIPS 52 DEGREES SW, CROSSING THE BEDDING OF THE ENCLOSED SLATES AND QUARTZITES, WHICH DIP 20--40 DEGREES NE. THE DEPOSIT IS A QUARTZ-FILLED FISSURE THAT RANGES FROM A FRACTION OF AN INCH TO 10 FEET IN WIDTH AND AVERAGES PERHAPS 4 FEET. A GOUGE SEAM MARKS THE FISSURE, AND IN MANY PLACES QUARTZ HAS BEEN DEPOSITED ALONG BOTH SIDES OF IT, LEAVING THE GOUGE ALMOST ENTIRELY UNREPLACED.? (FROM FROM UMPLEBY AND JONES, 1923).

Comment (Location): DECIMAL DEGREES: 47.6644 -115.7219 ?ALTHOUGH THE MAIN SURFACE PLANT IS ON TRIBUTARY CREEK, A BRANCH OF THE EAST FORK OF EAGLE CREEK, IN IDAHO, MUCH OF THE MINING SINCE THE 1930?S HAS BEEN IN MONTANA ON THE DIXIE CREEK BRANCH OF BIG BEAVER CREEK? (CROWLEY, 1963).

Comment (Location): THE JACK WAITE MINE (ID) AND JACK WAITE (MT) ON THE IDAHO-MONTANA BORDER ARE 1 MI APART. THEY ARE CONSIDERED THE SAME MINE.

AN UNPUBLISHED LETTER/REPORT BY MINEXCO, INC., SPOKANE, WA IN MBMG FILES, RM 213, MAIN HALL, MONTANA TECH: LISTED TWO MAJOR VEINS: THE JACK WAITE (N60W DIPS 50SW) LOCATED ON THE EAST LIMB OF A GENTLE NORTH PLUNGING ANTICLINE AND THE COLUMBUS (N70W, 70SE).

Comment (Exploration): 1900 - JACK WAITE DISCOVERS VEIN IN TRIBUTARY CREEK 1909 - JACK WAITE MINING COMPANY INCORPORATED AND PURCHASED NINE CLAIMS FROM SENATOR LEE MANTLE FOR $250,000. (CROWLEY, 1963). 1927 - 125-TON MILL AND ELECTRIC POWERLINE BUILT (CROWLEY, 1963). 1928 - MAIN HAULAGEWAY STARTED ON THE 1500 LEVEL. MILL CAPACITY INCREASED TO 400 TON PER DAY. JACK WAITE CONSOLIDATED MINING COMPANY INCORPORATED IN ARIZONA. 1930 - ORE PROCESSED IN 150-TON FLOTATION PLANT IN MURRAY, IDAHO. 1931 - NEW 500-TON FLOTATION PLANT IN DUTHIE, IDAHO. 1934 - AMERICAN SMELTING AND REFINING CO.
