Comment (Location): S-T-R, LAT-LONG, AND ELEV. TAKEN FROM BURBANK'S (1932) PLATE 1 (SCALE 1:12000). MINE OR CLAIM LIES ON SOUTH SLOPE OF ROUND MTN ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1976)

Comment (Production): ALTHOUGH SHAWMUT IS ONE OF DISTRICT'S EARLY PRODUCERS, RECORDS ARE UNAVAILABLE. PRODUCTION IN 1888 INCLUDED $80 AU, $2586 AG, $1340 CU.

Comment (Workings): MINE DEVELOPED BY 300-FT SHAFT AND FIVE PRINCIPAL LEVELS (BASED ON DEPTH BELOW SURFACE): 90, 120, 165, 215, 280. DRIFT FOOTAGES NORTH AND SOUTH FROM SHAFT AND CROSSCUT FOOTAGES AS FOLLOWS: 90 LEVEL, 75 FT NORTH; 120 LEVEL, 120 FT SOUTH; 165 LEVEL, 245 FT NORTH , 85 FT SOUTH, 10 FT CROSSCUT; 215 LEVEL, 310 FT NORTH, 50 FT SOUTH, 50 FT CROSSCUT; 280 LEVEL, 200 FT NORTH, 160 FT SOUTH, 30 FT CROSSCUT. TWO 50-FT RAISES CONNECT 165 AND 215 LEVELS AT POINTS 55 AND 225 FT NORTH OF SHAFT. INTERMEDIATE STATION AT 245 FT IN SHAFT. SHAWMUT TUNNEL DRIVEN 1170 FT AT N83E. AT STATION 13 (990 FT FROM PORTAL) DRIFT DRIVEN NE ALONG SHAWMUT VEIN FOR 65 FT. THENCE RAISE DRIVEN 120 F T TO CONNECT WITH 280 LEVEL AT POINT 40 FT SE OF SHAFT OVERALL LENGTH AND WIDITH GIVEN ABOVE EXLUDES SHAWMUT TUNNEL.

Comment (Development): AFTER CLAIM LOCATION IN 1885, PROPERTY CHANGED OWNERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES THRU 1907. KAPI MINING AND MILLING CO. STARTED SHAWMUT TUNNEL IN 1912 TO PROVIDE DRAINAGE AND INTERSECT OTHER VEINS. RAISE FROM TUNNEL TO SHAWMUT WORKINGS COMPLETED ABOUT 1918

Comment (Deposit): PRINCIPAL VEIN IS SHAWMUT VEIN (ATTITUDE GIVEN ABOVE). SHAWMUT TUNNEL INTERSECTS OTHER VEINS, INCLUDING MAY BELLE VEIN, WEST O F SHAWMUT VEIN TUNNEL AND LOWER MINE LEVELS ARE IN RAWLEY ANDESITE, BUT UPPER LEVELS MAY HAVE PENETRATED BLOCKS OF BONANZA TUFF.
