Comment (Production): SEVERAL TONS OF HIGH-GRADE ORE WERE PACKED OUT ON HORSES TO THE TACOMA SMELTER PRIOR TO 1912 (BROUGHTON, 1942, P. 14-15).

Comment (Geology): GRANODIORITE AND TONALITE OF THE INDEX BATHOLITH INTRUDE OLDER METAMORPHIC ROCKS IN THE INDEX AREA (TABOR AND OTHERS, 1982, P. 10). BOTH THE OLDER METAMORPHIC ROCKS AND GRANODIORITE ARE CUT BY APLITE AND LAMPROPHYRE DIKES, AND ALL ARE UNCONFORMABLY OVERLAIN BY INTERBEDDED ANDESITE AND ARKOSE (BROUGHTON, 1942, P. 14).
