Comment (Location): MINE WORKINGS SCATTERED OVER A LARGE AREA AT THE HEAD OF MAD CANYON DRAINAGE, A SOUTH FLOWING TRIBUTARY OF MIDDLE FORK OF AMERICAN RIVER.

Comment (Workings): WORKINGS CONSISTED OF A 50 FT DEEP SHAFT WITH A SHORT DRIFT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SHAFT WESTWARD ALONG STRIKE OF THE ORE BODY.

Comment (Geology): DEPOSIT OCCURS IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF A MASS OF ULTRAMAFIC ROCKS THAT INTRUDED PALEOZOIC METAMORPHIC ROCHS OF THE CALAVERAS FORMATION.

Comment (Deposit): CHROMITE BODIES RANDOMLY DISTRIBUTED BUT APPARENTLY CONCENTRATED IN TWO AREAS; CONSISTENTLY HARE THE ABOVE STRIKE; PITCH 70 SE; AND ARE ALIGNED PARALLEL TO THE WELL DEVELOPED SHEARING IN THE PERIDOTITE.
