Comments

Comment (Location): UTM IS FOR CURRENTLY ACTIVE PLACER IN IMLAY CANYON NEAR MOUTH OF CANYON. PLACERS HAVE BEEN ACTIVE IN THE CANYON IN- THE PAST ALL ALONG THE CANYON FROM ITS MOUTH TO THE IMLAY MIN-E, A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 2 MILES.

Comment (Production): CURRENT PRODUCTION IS ABOUT 5 OZ AU/DAY (1984)

Comment (Development): OLD PLACER DISTRICT WORKED INTERMITTENTLY FROM 1860'S TO PRESENT. INSPIRATION COPPER CONDUCTED EXPLORATION IN THE -DISTRICT IN 1984, BUT RETURNED THE PROPERTY TO OWNER AS BEING -TOO SMALL.

Comment (Deposit): PLACER GOLD, CINNABAR, AND SCHEELITE OCCUR IN QUATERNARY GRAVELS IN AND ADJACENT TO IMLAY CANYON. MOST PRODUCTIVE -GRAVELS ARE HOLOCENE, 1-2 M THICK, RESTING ON OLDER GRAVELS WH-ICH ARE LOCALLY FE-OXIDE STAINED AND CEMENTED BY CALICHE TO VA-RYING DEGREES. GRAVELS REST ON PHYLLITE OF GRASS VALLEY FM. OL-DER GRAVELS CONTAIN SOME GOLD, BUT GENERALLY NOT ENOUGH TO PAY- FOR MINING IT. BEST VALUES OCCUR IN THIN YOUNGEST GRAVELS WHI-CH ARE UNCONSOLIDATED AND MODERATELY WELL-SORTED, OVERLYING OL-DER, SEMI-INDURATED, POORLY SORTED GRAVELS.

Comment (Workings): SEVERAL PITS, PROSPECT CUTS, TRENCHES. ACTIVE PLACER OPERATION; TRUCK HAULAGE FROM GRAVEL PITS, FRONT END LOADER, -TROMMELS, SLUICE, JIGS(1984)

Comment (Geology): THE PROBABLE SOURCE OF PLACER GOLD IS THE IMLAY VEIN COMPOSED OF QUARTZ CONTAINING SILVER AND GOLD.

Comment (Deposit): PLACER MINING ACTIVITY IN THE IMLAY DISTRICT WAS RESTRICTED TO SMALL-SCALE DRY WASHING OF GRAVELS. PLACER GOLD RECOVERED BY DRY PLACERING. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
