Comment (Geology): GEOL.DESC: HYDRAULIC AND DRIFT MINE. ON CENTRAL HILL CHANNEL. TWO CHANNELS SEPARATED BY 15' OF RHYOLITE TUFF. LOWER CHANNEL UP TO 100' DEEP, 200' WIDE; UPPER CHANNEL UP TO 1000' WIDE, CAPPED BY 100' RHYOLITE TUFF. GRAVEL CONSISTING LARGELY OF CALAVERAS SCHIST.

Comment (Workings): HYDRAULICKING CEASED ABOUT 1900 WHEN TAILING POND S OF HIGHWAY WAS FILLED. LONG N-TRENDING TUNNEL PROSPECTED INTERMITTENTLY 1930S TO EARLY 1950S. ZIRCON OCCURS IN SANDS AT DOUGLAS FLAT. CONCENTRATION - 64 LBS. ZIRCON PER TON OF BLACK SAND.
