Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Location): Political location in record is Rosebud county. However, lat/long plots 400 km to the west in Broadwater county. The reference is unpublished so will be difficult to check. Coordinates are: lat/long NAD27 46-10-18N 111-41-56W (46.1717 -111.6989); UTM N5113140 E446049 Z12N; PLSS line# 1: Meridian- Montana Principal, TWNSHP 007 N, RNG 001 W, Sect 35, Sect_fract . The PLSS coordinates translate to 46.317 -111.693 (46 19 02N 111 41 34W), 17 km, or 0.145 degrees, or 9 minutes, or almost 2 townships N of the lat/long, but still within Broadwater county. Rosebud county is centered at the same latitude but 106W longitude. A Pb/Ag prospect is very anomalous in Rosebud county. All of the other 23 deposits in the county are industrial minerals. In contrast, similar types of mines surround both the PLSS and lat/long locations. So the county name was changed to Broadwater, the lat/long was left unchanged, and the disagreeing PLSS location noted.
