Lago Deposit

The Lago Deposit is a molybdenum and copper mine located in Lyon county, Nevada at an elevation of 4,360 feet.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Development): In 1965, a Newmont-Utah Construction jpont venture drilled shallow holes in the Lagomarsino Ranch lands area northeast of the main Yerington Deposit on the east side of McLeod Hill, but found insufficient copper mineralization to continue work. Anaconda subsequently acquired the property and drilled 10 deeper holes with similar results. Phelps Dodge drilled 12 holes on the property between 1969 and 1973 and discovered the copper-moly deposit. Development of the deposit would have necessitated relocation of the county airport, which was voted down by the Lyon COunty Board of Commissioners, effectively halting development of this rich orebody.

Comment (Commodity): Ore Materials: chalcopyrite, bornite, molybdenite

Comment (Commodity): Gangue Materials: pyrite

Comment (Deposit): Replacement and disseminated mineralization is hosted mainly by granodiorite and quartz monzonite deposit but is associated with faulting at an igneous contact zone.

Comment (Economic Factors): The deposit contains an estimated 484,000,000 tons of material grading 0.44% copper and 0.01 % Mo, based on a 1979 resource estimate.

Comment (Geology): The deposit does not outcrop and is deeply buried.

Comment (Identification): All pertinent material from earlier MRDS record N000424 has been incorporated into the current record, as well as additional new information.

Comment (Location): The Bear deposit is concealed beneath Cenozoic cover just NW of Mcleod Hill.

Comment (Deposit): Associated Minerals: actinolite, biotite, chalcopyrite, magnetite, molybdenite, pyrite

Comment (Deposit): Associated Rock: quartz monzonite;granite, limestone, rhyolite, sandstone, skarn, volcaniclastic rocks ;andesite, quartz monzodiorite

Comment (Deposit): Deposit Does Not Outcrop And Is Deeply Buried. General Size Of Ore Body: Large

Gold Districts of Nevada

Nevada has a total of 368 distinct gold districts. Of the of those, just 36 are major producers with production and/or reserves of over 1,000,000 ounces, 49 have production and/or reserves of over 100,000 ounces, with the rest having less than 100,000 ounces. Read more: Gold Districts of Nevada.
