Mina Gold Property

The Mina Gold Property is a gold mine located in Mineral county, Nevada at an elevation of 6,201 feet.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Note: the land ownership field only identifies whether the area the mine is in is generally on public lands like Forest Service or BLM land, or if it is in an area that is generally private property. It does not definitively identify property status, nor does it indicate claim status or whether an area is open to prospecting. Always respect private property.

Comments

Comment (Geology): Three formations are exposed in area. The oldest is a meta-andesite, the gold bearing rock. This is unconformably overlain by a magnetite-ilmenite, hornblende andesite, which is in turn overlain by a white, very fine grained rhyolite.

Comment (Identification): This is a new record for the Mina Gold Property significant deposit. It incorporates all pertinent material from earlier record #M233173 which may be deleted from the database.

Comment (Location): The mine is located about 2 miles west of the Simon Mine.

Comment (Workings): The oringinal mine was developed by a shaft and adit with winze. Morerecent development includes an open pit.

Comment (Development): In 1998, Golden Phoenix Minerals Inc. was in the process of extending a purchase option on the Mina Gold property. Exploration and development are planned for the project, owned and operated by Mina Gold Mine, Inc., a subsidiary of the SF Lewis Trust. Previous owners had reported a geologic resource of 1.77 million tons averaging 0.055 opt gold on the property. Golden Phoenix Minerals Inc. was planning exploration and development after securing their position. In 2001, Valerie Gold Resources Ltd. signed an option agreement to acquire the Walker Lane gold property from Nevada Minerals Recon Co. The property consists of claim blocks in the Mina Gold and Omco Mine areas of the Bell district, as well as claims near the Warrior Mine in the adjacent Athens district of Nye County. The main target on the Mina Gold area claims was an as yet undrilled intersection zone of north-dipping, sheeted, adularia-veined ledges with vertical veins of what is known as the Gully zone. A second target was at the old Trafalgar Hill prospect on Trafalgar Hill in the east-center of the claim block. The hill is cut by at least three major zones of west-dipping breccia and sheeted veins and was as yet undrilled.

Comment (Commodity): Ore Materials: gold

Comment (Commodity): Gangue Materials: calcite, quartz

Comment (Economic Factors): In 1997, the reported geologic resource for the property was 1.77 million tons of material grading 0.055 ounces of gold per ton.

Comment (Deposit): Hydrothermal alteration in the mineralized was structurally controlled. A first phase of structural strain resulted in strong quartz veinlet impregnation. This quartz recemented the fractured rock. A second phase resulted in the zone of most intense NW-trending fractures. The rocks were strongly refractured. Hydrothermal solutions containing silica, CO2, and gold permeated this zone destroying previously formed minerals and developing a rock composed of milky quartz, calcite, and opaline silica. The very-fine-grained gold was deposited during this phase. No sulfides were seen. The adit and shaft area appears to have continuous "ore" values over a length in excess of 500 feet and width up to 200 feet, with depth at least 100 feet. The vein at the deposit is 2 to 4 feet thick.

Nevada Gold

Gold Districts of Nevada

Nevada has a total of 368 distinct gold districts. Of the of those, just 36 are major producers with production and/or reserves of over 1,000,000 ounces, 49 have production and/or reserves of over 100,000 ounces, with the rest having less than 100,000 ounces. Read more: Gold Districts of Nevada.
