MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Commodity): Ore Materials: gold, stibnite

Comment (Identification): The Silver Star property covers area between the historic Kernick and Sunset mines for which earlier records exist. The current Silver Star property record includes all pertinent material from earlier records M035401, M035391, M035987, and M035976 as well as new material.

Comment (Location): The Silver Star property is located a half mile southeast of the Triumph Mine in the old Camp Douglas (Silver Star) District, on the north flank of the Excelsior Mountains.

Comment (Workings): Old mines were developed by adits, prospect pits, and a glory hole.

Comment (Commodity): Gangue Materials: gangue is composed of vuggy quartz

Comment (Development): Silver Star district mining activity was centered in the Camp Douglas area between 1893 and 1903. Many of the early ines were antimony mines. In 1997, Cimarron Minerals Inc. completed a small trenching program and an I.P. survey over the Maryann Basin and Mega anomaly portions of the Sunset Claim property, in the ilver Star District west of the town of Mina. Pallaum Minerals planned a program of reverse circulation drilling on these and other gold targets centered in and around the Maryann Basin. Earlier work in the district had outlined an estimated 60,000 oz of gold resource in several zones between the old Sunset and Kernick Mines. In 1998, under the terms of an exploration agreement with Cimarron Minerals Ltd., Hecla Mining Co. began a 5,000-foot reverse-circulation drilling program at Cimarron?s Sunset Gold Property. Three to four angle holes are planned to test a surface rock geochemical gold anomaly coincident with an induced polarization (IP) anomaly along the north-trending Maryann Basin structures. Epithermal gold-silver mineralization is hosted by intermediate to felsic Tertiary volcanic rocks at the Sunset Property. May 1, 2000 Cimarron became Disc Factories Corp. and left the minerals industry.

Comment (Economic Factors): In 1997 reported resource for the Silver Star project was one million tons of material grading 0.06 ounces of gold per ton, for a total of about 60,000 contained ounces of gold.

Comment (Deposit): In general, mineralization in the Silver Star District consists of a series of veins averaging 4 feet wide and traceable for up to a mile; cutting metavolcanic rocks of the Excelsior Formation as well as altered Tertiary andesitic rock. Vein ore occurs as pods and lenses in brecciated, bleached, silicified andesitic tuff. Veins strike southeast to east and dip about 45 degrees south. Oxidized ores contain silver minerals with associated cerussite, smithsonite, antimony oxides and copper carbonates; the unoxidized ore consists of stibnite, galena, sphalerite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite. In some veins, free gold is present in crushed, hydrothermally altered andesitic rock.
