Gardner area

The Gardner area is a uranium and vanadium mine located in Huerfano county, Colorado.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): Uranium occurrences are noted in the NW/4 of T 25 S, R 70 W. (Sunshine files, 1963)

Comment (Geology): Uranium and vanadium mineralization occurs in lenses of limonitic, carbonaceous sandstone and arkose in the Farisita Conglomerate. Nelson-Moore and others (1978) report that the unit has good potential to host additional significant uranium deposits.

Comment (Location): Several prospects are located about six miles northwest of the town of Gardner, mainly in the NW/4 of T 25 S, R 70 W.

Comment (Production): Only six tons of ore was produced from this prospective district. All of the ore was produced from the Anal No. 1 mine. Four other known prospects are in the district. These are: Delz Ranch, Isabell Group, Whitecliff 1-26, and Virginia-Verne 1-6. Nelson-Moore and others (1978) consider the district to be highly prospective for the discovery of new uranium reserves in sandtone-hosted deposits.

Comment (Reserve-Resource): Resources are not known.
