The Montezuma Mine is a silver, lead, zinc, and antimony mine located in Pershing county, Nevada at an elevation of 4,639 feet.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Elevation: 4,639 Feet (1,414 Meters)
Commodity: Silver, Lead, Zinc, Antimony
Lat, Long: 40.36056, -118.39250
Map: View on Google Maps
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.
Montezuma Mine MRDS details
Primary: Montezuma Mine
Secondary: Montezuma Group

Land ownership: Private
Note: the land ownership field only identifies whether the area the mine is in is generally on public lands like Forest Service or BLM land, or if it is in an area that is generally private property. It does not definitively identify property status, nor does it indicate claim status or whether an area is open to prospecting. Always respect private property.

Comment (Location): EAST FOOTHILLS OF TRINITY RANGE
Comment (Workings): A PIT 90 FT LONG, 20 FT WIDE, 20 FT WITH IN INCLINED SHAFT SUNK TO 120 FT DEEP. IN 1984, INCLINE WAS PARTIALLY INTACT, BUT NOT ACCESSIBLE. REMAINING UNDERGROUND WORKINGS, ONCE EXTENSIVE, CAVED.- INCLINE WAS DUG FROM BOTTOM OF AN OPEN PIT OR GLORY HOLE.
Comment (Geology): BINDHEIMITE OCCURS AS EARTHLY TO PITCHY PODS THAT FILL THE ENTIRE VEIN, LEANER VEINS CONTAIN AMOUNTS OF MILKY QUARZ WITH THE BINDHEIMITE. THE ORE BEARING VEINS CUT ACROSS GRANODIORITE AND HORNFELS.
Comment (Deposit): IN 1865 A SMELTER WAS BUILT FOR TREAT THE ORE FROM THE MINE, THE MONTEZUMA MINE IS DEVELOPED ON THE EAST-TRENDING VEIN BY A PIT 90 FT. LONG, 20 FT. WIDE , AND 20 FEET DEEP WITH INCLINE SHAFT SUNK TO 120 FT. DEEP. THE MAIN ORE BODY IN THE PIT WAS 14 FT. THICK BUT THINNED TO 6 FT AT THE LEVEL OF THE PIT ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
Comment (Production): CUMMULATIVE PRODUCTION IS SUM OF GIVEN TYPICAL YEAR VALUES; AVERAGING 2 OZ TON/YEAR, VALUE AVERAGED $50.22/TON. VALUES FOR INDIVIDUAL COMMODITIES ARE SUMMARY FOR WHOLE ARABIA DISTRICT, OF WHICH MONTEZUMA MINE IS THE LARGEST.
Comment (Development): IN 1865 A SMELTER WAS BUILT TO TREAT THE ORE FROM THE MINE. YIELDED $770000, BIGGEST IN THE DISTRICT
Comment (Deposit): THE MAIN ORE BODY IS 14 FT THICK BUT THINNED TO 6 FT AT PIT LEVEL. BINDHEIMITE OCCURS AS EARTHY TO PITCHY PODS THAT FILL THE ENTIRE EAST-TRENDING VEIN, LEANER VEINS CONTAIN AMOUNTS OF MILKY QUARTZ WITH THE BINDHEIMITE. THE ORE BEARING VEINS CUT ACROSS GRANODIORITE AND HORNFELS. VEIN IS GOSSANY WITH EXTENSIVE IRON-STAINED ALTERATION EXTENDING INTO THE ADJACENT META-SILTSTONE. THE VEIN SHAPE- IS POD-LIKE WITH RADIATING VEINLETS OF QUARTZ INTO GOUGE THAT- EXTEND ALONG ADJACENT FRACTURES.; MODEL NAME COULD ALSO BE: POLYMETALLIC VEINS.
