Comments

Comment (Development): YUBA LEASING CO. ACTIVE ON THE PROPERTY IN 1914, FOUND GOOD ORE SHOOT ON 900 LEVEL. IN 1868, F.L.A. PIOCHE DEPUTED CHARLES E. HOFFMAN TO PURCHASE CLAIMS. HE SECURED SOME OF THE BEST CLAIMS WHICH PIOCHE LATER CONVEYED TO THE MEADOW VALLEY MINING CO. WHICH HE ORGANIZED FOR THAT PURPOSE

Comment (Workings): MEADOW VALLEY NO. 3 SHAFT SUNK 1374 FT INCLINED, BEFORE WATER LEVEL WAS REACHED AND STOPPED AT 1375 FT

Comment (Geology): A ZONE OF MASSIVE BLACK ZN-PB-FE SULFIDE ORE, SEVERAL FT WIDE, WAS ENCOUNTERED ALONG QUARTZITE FOOTWALL. ORE WAS NAMED "BLACK LEAD" AND WAS NOT OF VALUE TO EARLY MINERS. ORE WAS LOCATED BELOW 1,200 FT LEVEL.

Comment (Location): INFO FROM LAND.ST :1972

Comment (Deposit): NO COMMERCIAL ORE HAS BEEN DISCOVERED. THE MAIN SHOOT WAS COVERED BY 100 FT OF SHALE AND THE ONLY SURFACE EXPOSURE WAS THIN SEAMS IN SHALE CONSIDERABLE LOW-GRADE (1909) ORE WAS ENCOUNTERED BELOW WATER LEVEL WITH GRADE INCREASING WITH DEPTH.

Comment (Deposit): Discovery Year: 1860'S
