Comments

Comment (Deposit): SILICEOUS VEIN IN FAULT, EXPOSED LATERALLY FOR 3000 FT. STRIKE OF VEINS ARE VARIABLE ACCORDING TO BOWEN, FROM N80E, AT SURFACE, TO N80W. VEINS APPEAR TO BE DISCONTINUOUS. IN VICINITY OF DOHERTY SHAFT, HANGING WALL ROCKS ARE META-DACITES AND META-FELSITES OF THE SIDEWINDER VOLCANIC SERIES, AND FOOTWALL IS QT. MONZONITE. IN MOST EASTERN WORKINGS, BOTH WALLS ARE HYDROTHERMALLY ALTERED FELSIT. BOTH WALLS ARE QT. MONZONITE IN MOST EASTERLY OF 3 WEST SHAFTS.

Comment (Production): ORE PRODUCED IN 1887 HAD ESTIMATED YIELD OF $30/TON IN GOLD (FREE MILLING). CUMULATIVE PRODUCTION FROM ESTIMATES BY U.S. BUREAU OF MINES.

Comment (Geology): FAULT SEPARATES RHYOLITE AND DACITE ON SW FROM QUARTZ MONZONITE PORPHYRY ON NE. FORMER ARE PART OF SIDEWINDER VOLCANIC SERIES OF PROBABLE JURASSIC OR TRIASSIC AGE; QT. MONZONITE IS BELIEVED TO BE OF LATE JURASSIC AGE.

Comment (Deposit): OPENED IN 1880'S, WORKED INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL 1942 WAS LARGEST GOLD OPERATION IN BARSTOW-VICTERVILLA AREA. 3 PATENTED CLAIMS ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT

Comment (Workings): 2 INCLINES, THE DOHNEY AND ARMSTRONG SHAFTS. DOHNEY IS 600 FT. DEEP, W/4 LEVELS SPACED AT 100 FT. INTERVALS AND W/DRIFTS TOTALING 1000 FT., 1300 FT., 400 FT. AND 300 FT., RESPECTIVELY-SW-TRENDING ADIT ON 200 FT. LEVEL. ARMSTRONG SHAFT IS ABOUT 800 FT DEEP. PROPERTY ALSO CONTAINS SEVERAL SHALLOWER SHAFTS. COMBINED LENGTH OF WORKINGS TOTALS APPROX. 3000 FT. DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF WORKINGS CAN BE FOUND IN BOWEN (1954).
