Comment (Geology): GEOL.DESC: PIT SUNK IN A REGOLITHIC BRECCIA CONSISTING OF WHITE CHERT FRAGMENTS CEMENTED BY BLACK MANGANESE OXIDES, CHIEFLY PSILOMELANE WITH BOTRYOIDAL SURFACES BUT ALSO SOME PYROLUSITE. MN CONTENT PROBABLY NOT OVER 10%. A SAMPLE TAKEN JUST SOUTH OF THE PIT (AREA NOW COVERED BY WATER) CONSISTED OF HIGH-GRADE BLACK OXIDES, PSILOMELANE AND PYROLUSITE, RAN ABOUT 50% MANGANESE.
