Comments

Comment (Production): FERBERITE DEPOSITS OF BOULDER COUNTY WERE THE LARGEST SOURCE OF TUNGSTEN IN U.S. FROM 1900-1919. FROM 1919-1945 THERE WAS SOME PRODUCTION EACH YEAR EXCEPT 1921-1922 & 1932. TOTAL OUTPUT OF WO3 FROM 1900 THRU 1945 WAS 1,457,000 UNITS FOR THE DISTRICT. CONTENT OF WO3 IN ORE MINED HAS RANGED FROM 1 TO 20 PERCENT AND AVERAGED ABOUT 8 PERCENT. THE THREE MOST DOMINANT COMPANIES IN THE DISTRICT WERE THE WOLF TONGUE MINING CO., THE PRIMOS MINING AND MILLING CO. AND THE VANADIUM CORP. OF AM. ITEM 8 = CONGER MINE, ITEM 9 = COLD SPRING, ITEM 10 = BEDDIG, ITEM 11 = VASCO NO. 6, ITEM 12 = QUAKER CITY, ITEM 13 = TUNGSTEN (CHANCE), ITEM 14 = LONE TREE.

Comment (Development): THE LARGE PATENTED AREAS WERE HELD FOR MANY YEARS BY A FEW COMPANIES (SEE PRODUCTION COMMENTS) WHO WORKED THE LARGER AREAS AND LEASED THE SMALLER ONES TO INDIVIDUALS ; ECON.COM: DISTRICT IS ACCESSIBLE ALL YEAR

Comment (Workings): MOST OF THE ORE SHOOTS WERE SMALL BUT OF HIGH GRADE. MOST WERE 6 TO 36 INCHES WIDE. THE LARGEST SHOOT WAS FOUND IN THE CONGER MINE. MOST SHOOTS WERE MINED OUT WITHIN 100 FT. OF THE SURFACE. POSSIBLE PRESENCE OF BLIND SHOOTS PROVIDES PRINCIPAL CHANCE FOR FUTURE PRODUCTION. MAJORITY OF THE VEINS STRIKE NORTHEASTERLY AND ARE STEEPLY INCLINED
