Comments

Comment (Development): W. D. OSBORN HAD THE CLAIMS PATENTED IN 1860'S AND BUILT A SMELTER AT HIKO. HIS ENTERPRISE FAILED AND THE PATENTS REVERTED TO THE US GOVERNMENT. OSBORN AND WHEATLEY LOCATED NEW CLAIMS, TOGETHER WITH THE POCIN ESTATE INTERESTS (1920'S). IN 1915 THE PROPERTY WAS LEASED TO THOMAS MCCORMACK WHO SHIPPED ORE IN 1915, 1916, 1917. THE COMPANY RESUMED OPERATIONS IN 1922 AND SHIPPED ORE IN 1922, 1923 AND 1924. IT WAS ACQUIRED BY SHEAHAN BROS IN 1937 AND UNTIL 1942, WORKINGS WERE REHABILITATED, 50 TPD FLOTATION MILL WAS BUILT AND PRODUCTION WAS ATTEMPTED SPORADICALLY. ORE WAS SHIPPED IN 1944. PRODUCTION WAS REPORTED BY PRESS IN 1916, 1917, DEVELOPMENT IN 1929, PRODUCTION IN 1942, 1943, 1931, DEVELOPMENT IN 1936. THE MINE WAS THE SUBJECT OF A STUDY BY THE NBMG AND THE USBM IN 1944. THE GROOM MINE WAS ENGULFED BY THE USAF GUNNERY RANGE AFTER WWII.

Comment (Deposit): ON THE LIMESTONE/SHALE/QUARTZITE CONTACT, LARGE MASSES OF PURE WHITE QUARTZ OCCUR, MORE OR LESS CONNECTED BY QUARTZ VEINS, PARTIALLY BRECCIATED AND BROKEN. ORE OCCURS ALONG THE "GOB" INTRUSION AS WELL AS OUT ALONG BEDDING PLANES OF LIMESTONE, REPLACING IT WITH A MIXTURE OF LEAD AND SILVER MINERALS, CALCITE, SIDERITE, AND A LITTLE BARITE, TYPICALLY.

Comment (Workings): OPENED BY SHAFT & 2 ADITS. BEST ORE ABOVE 100 FOOT LEVEL

Comment (Geology): ORE IN BEDDED DEPOSITS IN 3 THIN LIMESTONE BEDS. BEST ORE IN AREA 250 FEET LONG BETWEEN GROOM FAULT & NO. 3 THRUST FAULT, AND ALONG NS FISSURES; GOOD ORE FOUND IN SMALL EW FRACTURES. ORE BODIES UP TO 30 FEET WIDE

Comment (Location): NEAR SOUTH END OF GROOM RANGE . ON US AIR FORCE GUNNERY RANGE NOW.. ON US AIR FORCE GUNNERY RANGE NOW. ; INFO FROM LAND.ST :(1982)

Comment (Reserve-Resource): PROBABLE EXISTANCE OF DEEPER MINERALIZATION BELOW 390 FEET

Comment (Production): PRODUCTION REPORTED FOR ENTIRE DISTRICT, CHIEFLY GROOM MINE
