Mountain Meadows is in southwestern Lassen County a few miles southeast of Westwood and eight miles norrh of Greenville. Years ago placer gold was recovered from Tertiary gravels in the southeast end of the valley. These deposits are on the northwest end of a Tertiary channel known as the Jura channel, which extends southeast to the Taylorsville and Genessee districts. Bedrock consists of greenstone and amphibolite.
