Esmeralda Hotel in Aurora, Nevada, 1920s

Freight wagon in front of the original Mono County courthouse in Aurora 1907

The building on the left was originally the Mono County courthouse until it was determined in 1863 that Aurora was in Nevada. The building then became the Esmeralda County courhouse until the county seat was moved in 1883. The building may have been a hotel or boarding house after that. During Aurora's third boom period around 1913, the building was refurbished as the Hotel Warren.

At some point the building became the Esmeralda Hotel which was the last name it had before Aurora was abandoned.

Aurora cabin promoted as Mark Twains residence

The writing on this photo claims that this cabin was where Mark Twain wrote Roughing It. Although this cabin was located in Aurora, research has concluded that this is likely not one of the cabins Twain lived in during his six month stay in Aurora.
