Gilt Edge Mining Companys cyanide recovery plant ca. 1893

This is the only known photo showing the Gilt Edge Mining Company's cyanide recovery plant renowned as the second cyanide plant in the US (the first was in Mercur, UT). The town of Gilt Edge was born a mere 1,000 feet SW of the mill. It was built in 1892 - 93 and attracted the attention of mining people from all over. At one time Fergus County was known in the mining world as the "cyanide capital of the west."
