Early view of Amador City, California

Stamp mill at Amador City ca. 1851

This photo is from a stereoview that claims that this stamp mill at Amador City was the first in the state of California. It also states that the man in the foreground is the builder and his name is Burke. Whether or not this is actually the first mill in the state is debatable, but it is certainly one of the earliest.
