Spangler is in northwestern San Bernardino County about 10 miles northeast of Johannesburg. Most of the gold production has been from the Spangler mine, which has been intermittently prospected and developed since the 1890s. A number of narrow west-striking gold-quartz veins traverse granitic rock. Some of the are contained more than one ounce of gold per ton.
