Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Low-sulfide Au-quartz veins (Cox and Singer, 1986; model 36a)

Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Tuck, 1938

Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = Surface trenches and cuts, one short tunnel and one 60-foot tunnel that missed the lode.

Comment (Exploration): Status = Inactive

Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = The country rock at this prospect is miceous schist of unknown age. Foliation strikes 58 SE and dips 18 N. The deposit is a 4-foot-wide shear zone consisting, from the top down, of a one-foot-wide quartz vein, with three feet of schist cut by small quartz seams, and quartz stringers. Most of the quartz is sugary and contains vugs lined with terminated crystals. Good values of gold were panned from the weathered material, but there was some indication that in the unweathered material, the gold was in the sulfides, rather than free-milling (Tuck, 1936).

Comment (Deposit): Other Comments = Shear zones in this area having shallow northward dips are part of a thrust zone best exposed underground at the Denali Copper prospect (HE191).
