Unnamed (southwest of Hill 4410)

The Unnamed (southwest of Hill 4410) is a lead, copper, and silver mine located in Alaska.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Geology): Age = Emplaced subseqent to or is related to the border phase of the Pennsylvanian to Permian, Ahtell pluton.

Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Richter, 1966

Comment (Deposit): Other Comments = Additional information can be obtained from Ahtna Minerals in Anchorage, Alaska.

Comment (Exploration): Status = Inactive

Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = The veins were first discovered during geologic mapping by the Alaska Division of Mines and Minerals from 1963 through 1965. The vein swarm was then largely covered by claims after the 1964 announcement of the discovery of the Silver Shield prospect (GU014) nearby.

Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = The prospect consists of a swarm of veins mostly in the contact or border phase of the Pennsylvanian to Permian, Ahtell pluton (Richter, Lanphere and Matson , 1975) near its intrusive contact with the Pennsylvanian to Permian, Tetelna Formation (fig. 2, Richter, 1966). The contact northeast of Ahtell Creek is steep. It strikes east-northeast for about one mile, and is marked by a diabase dike. The contact then turns northerly and flattens abruptly, forming a low-angle contact that places Tetelna Formation rocks above the pluton. The veins strike N20E to N80E; they are discontinuous with irregular dip. The veins are mostly quartz although locally about 50 percent of the veins are galena. Small amounts of chalcopyrite are present and tetrahedrite is found in float fragments of the veins (Richter, 1966, p. 32).

Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Polymetallic vein (Cox and Singer, 1986; model 22c)
