LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Commodity): A FEW GRAINS OF PLATINUM FOUND IN CONCENTRATES.
Comment (Deposit): WORKINGS CONFINED TO MOUTH OF DISAPPOINTMENT CREEK, WITH MAXIMUM WIDTH OF 300 FT.. GRAVELS CONTAINING GOLD IN ECONOMIC QUANTITIES WERE IRREGULARLY DISTRIBUTED. DEPOSITS NOT OVER 10-12 FT. DEEP TO BEDROCK, EXCEPT AT MOUTH OF CREEK, WHERE HOLES SUNK 35 FT. DEEP FAILED TO REACH BEDROCK. UPPER PORTION COMPOSED OF 2-3 FT. OF SOIL AND VEGETABLE MATTER. LOWER STRATUM OF GRAVEL CONTAINS GOLD. GRAVELS MOSTLY SMALL AND WELL-ROUNDED PEBBLES UP TO 8 IN. DIAMETER COBBLES.
Comment (Workings): OPEN CUTS USED. HOLES SUNK 35 FT. DEEP FAILED TO REACH BEDROCK, BUT ABANDONED BECAUSE OF FLOODING. ALL WORKINGS AT MOUTH OF DISAPPOINTMENT CREEK.
Comment (Development): DISCOVERED IN 1913, PRODUCTION BEGAN 1914, MINING BY OPEN CUT METHODS WITH GROUND SLUICING AT MOUTH OF DISAPPOINTMENT CREEK. MINING CONTINUED UNTIL WORLD WAR II (LAST MENTION IS 1939).
