Comment (Location): USGS MF-444, LOC. 8. LOCATION IS AT JUNCTION OF DISAPPOINTMENT AND WILSON CREEKS. PLACER EXTENDS UP DISAPPOINTMENT CREEK UNKNOWN DISTANCE, WITH MOST MINING AT MOUTH. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).

Comment (Commodity): A FEW GRAINS OF PLATINUM FOUND IN CONCENTRATES.

Comment (Deposit): WORKINGS CONFINED TO MOUTH OF DISAPPOINTMENT CREEK, WITH MAXIMUM WIDTH OF 300 FT.. GRAVELS CONTAINING GOLD IN ECONOMIC QUANTITIES WERE IRREGULARLY DISTRIBUTED. DEPOSITS NOT OVER 10-12 FT. DEEP TO BEDROCK, EXCEPT AT MOUTH OF CREEK, WHERE HOLES SUNK 35 FT. DEEP FAILED TO REACH BEDROCK. UPPER PORTION COMPOSED OF 2-3 FT. OF SOIL AND VEGETABLE MATTER. LOWER STRATUM OF GRAVEL CONTAINS GOLD. GRAVELS MOSTLY SMALL AND WELL-ROUNDED PEBBLES UP TO 8 IN. DIAMETER COBBLES.

Comment (Workings): OPEN CUTS USED. HOLES SUNK 35 FT. DEEP FAILED TO REACH BEDROCK, BUT ABANDONED BECAUSE OF FLOODING. ALL WORKINGS AT MOUTH OF DISAPPOINTMENT CREEK.

Comment (Development): DISCOVERED IN 1913, PRODUCTION BEGAN 1914, MINING BY OPEN CUT METHODS WITH GROUND SLUICING AT MOUTH OF DISAPPOINTMENT CREEK. MINING CONTINUED UNTIL WORLD WAR II (LAST MENTION IS 1939).

Comment (Deposit): STREAM GRADIENT 150 FT/MI.. ALTHOUGH GOLD WAS PRESENT, NO MINING WAS CONDUCTED ON WILSON CREEK GRAVELS BEYOND MOUTH OF DISAPPOINTMENT CREEK. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT

Comment (Geology): MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK CONSISTS OF MESEZOIC-PALEOZOIC SLATE AND CONGLOMERATE OF GEMUK GROUP, WITH TERTIARY GRANITIC INTRUSIONS. ; REG.COM: SOURCE OF PLACER GOLD UNKNOWN, POSSIBLY FROM GRANITIC INTRUSIONS NEAR HEAD OF CREEK. PLATINUM PROBABLY DERIVED FROM GREENSTONE.
