Windy Creek

The Windy Creek is a gold mine located in Alaska.

About the MRDS Data:

All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.

Satelite View

MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments

Comment (Workings): Workings / Exploration = Mining is reported for the years 1924 and 1926 to 1931 (Cobb, 1975).

Comment (Reserve-Resource): Reserves = Not defined

Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = A regional boundary between metapelitic rocks to the northwest and chlorite schist and related rocks to the southeast parallels Windy Creek about 0.2 to 0.4 miles to the southeast of the main drainage (Sainsbury, 1972). The metapelitic assemblage makes up most of the bedrock in the Windy Creek drainage. Both regional assemblages locally contain metamorphosed mafic intrusive bodies. The age of these assemblages is not known but they are probably Paleozoic. The location of operations and the nature of the placer deposit here have not been described. Mining is reported for the years 1924 and 1926 to 1931 (Cobb, 1975).

Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Cobb, 1975

Comment (Production): Production Notes = Not reported

Comment (Exploration): Status = Probably inactive

Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Alluvial Au placer (Cox and Singer, 1986; model 39a)

Comment (Geology): Age = Quaternary
