Comments

Comment (Geology): MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK MAINLY IGNEOUS AND METAMORPHIC ROCKS AT UPPER AND CENTRAL PARTS OF PAYSTREAK AND TERTIARY CONGLOMERATE, SANDSTONE, SHALE, AND COAL DOWNSTREAM.

Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.

Comment (Location): USGS MF-393, LOC. 51. PLACER EXTENDS FROM STONEHOUSE CR. TO FLATS OF MOSQUITO FORK. COORDINATES GIVEN ARE FOR CONFLUENCE WITH MYERS FK., THE CENTERAL POINT OF PLACER. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).

Comment (Development): MOST OF MINING IN EARLY YEARS BY DRIFTING, BECAUSE GROUND WAS DEEP AND FROZEN, AND BECAUSE LACK OF WATER MADE LARGE SCALE HYDRAULIC MINING IMPRACTICABLE. SOME OPEN CUT AND HYDRAULIC MINING. MINED IN 1967 BY DREDGE. MINED AT LEAST UNTIL 1975 BY BULLDOZER AND DRAGLINE.

Comment (Deposit): MOST OF GOLD PRODUCTION BEFORE WW II WAS FROM GRAVELS ON BEDROCK BENCHES. AFTER WW II MOST OF PRODUCTION WAS FROM WEST SIDE OF VALLEY BELOW MYERS FORK, 150-1,000 FT. FROM CREEK. GOLD ON SEVERAL BEDROCK SURFACES, MAINLY IN GRAVEL, BUT SOME ON BEDROCK AND IN CREVICES IN BEDROCK. SOME PIECES OF GOLD HAVE ATTACHED QUARTZ. SOME SCHEELITE WITH GOLD. OVERBURDEN 20-50 FT. THICK; 5-15 FT OF GRAVEL OVERLAIN BY MUCK. NEAR HEAD GOLD OCCURS IN THIN CALCITE VEINS ASSOCIATED WITH PYRITIFEROUS QUARTZ VEINS IN BLACK PHYLLITES.

Comment (Deposit): STREAM GRADIENT BELOW STONEHOUSE CR. 80 FEET PER MILE. DISCOVERY CLAIM A SHORT DISTANCE DOWNSTREAM FROM STONEHOUSE CREEK. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT
