Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.
Comment (Deposit): MOST OF GOLD RECOVERED AT THE BASE OF GRAVEL ON BEDROCK BENCHES ON BOTH SIDES OF CREEK. COARSE GOLD MINED ON BEDROCK IN 1903. OVERBURDEN 8-20 FT. THICK; 2-12 FEET OF GRAVEL OVERLAIN BY COARSE SAND AND FINE GRAVEL. ON THE EAST SIDE OF CREEK MOST OF GOLD FOUND BENEATH A THIN CLAYEY OR SILTY STRATUM A FEW INCHES ABOVE BEDROCK. BEDROCK IS MAINLY MAFIC IGNEOUS ROCK, DEEPLY WEATHERED AND CUT BY GRANITIC DIKES IN PLACES.
Comment (Geology): BEDROCK BENCHES HAD NO SURFACE EXPRESSION BEFORE MINING BEGAN.
