Comment (Location): USGS MF-371, LOC. 30. PRINCIPAL MINING ACTIVITIES IN DISTRICT ON SULLIVAN CREEK NEAR TOFTY. COORDINATES GIVEN FOR MINE AT TOFTY. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).

Comment (Development): MINING 1907-40'S MAINLY BY OPEN CUT AND HYDRAULIC METHODS. DITCH CONSTRUCTED, 1918. DRAGLINE MINING PLANT OPERATED, 1935.

Comment (Deposit): MOST OF GOLD AND CASSITERITE IN BASAL 1-2 FT. OF GRAVEL AND IN CREVICES IN TOP FOOT OF PHYLLITE BEDROCK. GRAVELS ARE 2-14 FT. THICK AND OVERLAIN BY 40-70 FT. OF MUCK AND SILT. BENCH PLACERS HAVE RICH "SPOTS" WITH ELIPTICAL AREAS WITH RICHEST PAY IN THE MIDDLE. AT ONE MINE $200,000 WAS PRODUCED "ALMOST ENTIRELY FROM A SPACE OF 5,000 SQ. FT." CASSITERITE OCCURS AS CEMENT IN BRECCIA OF VEIN QUARTZ FRAGMENTS.

Comment (Geology): MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS JURASSIC-CRETACEOUS PYRITIZED PHYLLITE AND SLATE CUT BY QUARTZ VEINS; SURFACE DECOMPOSED.
