The Porcupine River is a nickel mine located in Alaska.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comment (Deposit): Model Name = Seep
Comment (Deposit): Other Comments = See MAS/MILS Sequence # 0020330002 (USBM, 1995)
Comment (Geology): Geologic Description = Nickeliferous alum collected from a seep on the bank of Porcupine River. May indicate high Ni content in nearby gabbro/diorite or Middle Devonian sedimentary rocks. Rock samples of iron stained limestone and shales have anomalous copper (up to 500 ppm), lead (500 ppm), and zinc (2000 ppm), as well as vanadium and nickel (Barker, 1981, p. 50, no. 4; Barker and Clautice, 1978, p. 19, no. 15).
Comment (Reference): Primary Reference = Barker and Clautice (1978)
Comment (Commodity): Ore Material = Nickeliferous alum
Comment (Exploration): Status = Inactive
