LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Development): FIRST PRODUCTION IN 1909. INTERMITTANT SMALL-SCALE MINING REPORTED 1909-75. MINED MAINLY BY OPEN-CUT METHODS. DRAGLINE PLANT INSTALLED, 1937. MINED BY BULLDOZER IN 1975.
Comment (Deposit): BOTH CREEK AND BENCH PLACERS. GOLD IN BASAL 2 TO 4 FT. OF PRESENT STREAM BED AND IN OLDER STREAM GRAVELS ON ROCK BENCHES ABOUT 15 FT. ABOVE STREAM LEVEL. PAY DISCONTINUOUS, GOLD DISTRIBUTED IN DISCONNECTED PATCHES OF GRAVEL OR POCKETS IN THE BEDROCK. PLACERS ABOVE AND BELOW MOUTH OF LITTLE MOOSE CREEK. SOME GOLD IN HIGH GRAVELS. COMMON PLACER SCHEELITE AND CINNABAR, SCARCE CASSITERITE. PLATINUM FOUND IN PLACERS.
Comment (Geology): BASIN ERODED IN SCHIST OVERLAIN BY GRAVEL; THICK REMNANTS ON DIVIDES AND IN TERTRIBUTARY RIDGES. QUARTZ PORPHYRY INTRUSIVES NEAR HEAD. ; MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS SCHIST. ; REG.COM: MADDREN CONSIDERS PRINCIPAL SOURCE OF GOLD TO BE MINERALIZED ZONES IN SCHIST BEDROCK; OVERLYING GRAVELS ARE NOT CONSIDERED TO HAVE CONTRIBUTED VERY MUCH GOLD TO THE PRESENT PLACERS OF MOOSE CREEK.
