Comment (Deposit): STREAM GRADIENT 100-150 FT. PER MILE. LOCATION DISCRIPTION FOR ENTIRE LENGTH OF GOLD KING CREEK SOUTH OF LATITUDE 64 DEGREES 06' 30 TO END OF QUAD. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT

Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.

Comment (Development): INTERMITTANT MINING REPORTED FROM 1903 TO 1940. ALL MINING DONE BY OPEN CUTS. ATTEMPT AT LARGE-SCALE HYDRAULIC MINING UNSUCCESSFUL. DITCHES OF LENGTHS 2, 2.5, 6.5, AND 1 MILE BUILT.

Comment (Geology): STREAM HEADS IN HIGH RIDGE OF QUARTZ-FELDSPAR SCHISTS, THROUGH WHICH IT HAS CUT A DEEP NOTCH. STREAM FLOWS 10 MILES THROUGH TERTIARY HIGH GRAVELS (NENANA GRAVEL) AND COAL-BEARING ROCKS. VALLEY INCISED 1,200 TO 1,800 FT. BELOW THE SURFACES OF THE RIDGES TO THE EAST AND WEST. ; MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IN AREAS MINED MAINLY CLAY. ; REG.COM: GOLD THOUGHT TO BE RECONCENTRATED FROM NENANA GRAVEL.

Comment (Deposit): GOLD IS FOUND EITHER IN STREAM GRAVELS OR ON SOFT CLAYEY BEDROCK; GROUND 2-8 FT. DEEP. HIGH GRAVELS ARE AURIFEROUS. IN PLACES GOLD IS FOUND IN 4 TO 5 FT. OF GRAVEL; IN OTHER PLACES IT IS MOSTLY NEAR THE CLAY BEDROCK.
