Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.
Comment (Location): USGS MF-405, LOC. 7. STRIP MINE MARKED ON RUBY (B-5) JUST NORTH OF CROOKED CR. ON WEST BENCH OF BIRCH CR. PLACER GROUND ALSO ALONG CROOKED CR. NEAR MOUTH. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Development): EXPLORED BY SHAFTS SUNK ON LOW TERRACE SOUTH OF CREEK. MINING CHIEFLY IN LOWEST PART OF CREEK JUST ABOVE BIRCH CREEK. DRIFT MINING REPORTED.
Comment (Deposit): A LITTLE GOLD FOUND IN A SMALL PAYSTREAK NEAR MOUTH; SEVERAL FEET OF GRAVEL WITH CLAYEY LAYERS BENEATH 40-50 FT. OF MUCK. DEPOSITS OF CROOKED CR. MERGE WITH THOSE OF BIRCH CR.; AS THE DEPOSITS OF BIRCH CR. CONTAIN CASSITERITE, IT IS ASSUMED THAT AT LEAST SOME OF THE MATERIAL MINED ON CROOKED CR. ALSO CARRIED CASSITERITE. DIFFICULT TO DISTINGUISH DEPOSITS ON THE LOWER PART OF VALLEY FROM THOSE OF BIRCH CREEK.
Comment (Workings): SHAFTS SUNK APPROXIMATELY 50 FT. TO BEDROCK FOR DRIFT MINING.
Comment (Geology): MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS GRANITE AND SCHIST.
Comment (Deposit): STREAM GRADIENT APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET PER MILE. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT
