GRANITE ON HEADWATER DIVIDE TO NORTH IS PROBABLY THE SOURCE AREA FOR METALS IN PLACER DEPOSITS.
Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.
Comment (Location): USGS MF-405, LOC. 24. PLACER GROUND FROM A POINT HALF A MILE ABOVE RABBIT CREEK DOWNSTREAM FOR ABOUT A MILE. COORDINATES GIVEN FOR DISCOVERY CLAIM AT MOUTH OF RABBIT CREEK. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Development): GOOD PLACER GROUND DISCOVERED ABOUT MIDWAY IN STREAM'S COURSE, WINTER 1912-13. MINING, SUMMER 1913. SPORADIC MINING 1913 TO 1933; UNDERGROUND DRIFT METHODS REPORTED.
Comment (Deposit): GOLD OCCURS IN STREAKS OF FINE GRAVEL 3 TO 6 INCHES THICK IN MAIN BODY OF GRAVEL. THESE STREAKS ARE IRREGULARLY DISTRIBUTED BOTH VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY. LITTLE OR NO GOLD IS FOUND ON BEDROCK. PAY STREAK ABOUT A MILE LONG, 20-50 FEET WIDE, AND ABOUT 15 FT. THICK (ALL OF GRAVEL); GRAVEL OVERLAIN BY ABOUT 25 FEET OF FROZEN MUCK. THE PAY STREAK LIES ABOUT 100 FEET NW OF AND PARALLEL TO THE CREEK. ONLY A LITTLE CASSITERITE IN GRAVELS.
