Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.
Comment (Location): USGS MF-405, LOC. 32. PLACER AT MOUTH AND A SHORT DISTANCE BELOW MOUTH OF SOLOMON CREEK. 4 CLAIMS LIE ON VALLEY FLOOR OF POORMAN CREEK. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Development): PAY STREAK DISCOVERED IN 1930. WINTER AND SUMMER DRIFT MINING REPORTED BETWEEN 1930 AND 1933.
Comment (Deposit): MOST OF GOLD OCCURS IN THE UPPER 12 TO 18 INCHES OF BEDROCK, PARTICULARLY WHERE MANY SMALL QUARTZ PEBBLES OCCUR IN THE DISINTEGRATED BEDROCK. GOLD IS FOUND OVER A WIDTH OF 100 FEET, BUT THE PAY STREAK IS ONLY 30 FEET WIDE, AND THE RICHEST PART IS CONFINED TO 15 FEET. ONE SECTION SHOWED 10 FEET OF MUCK UNDERLAIN BY 60 FEET OF GRAVEL CONTAINING THIN STREAKS OF MUCK.
Comment (Workings): SHAFTS SUNK APPROXIMATELY 70 FEET TO BEDROCK FOR DRIFT MINING; ALLUVIUM SOLIDLY FROZEN.
Comment (Geology): SURFACE OF BEDROCK IS VERY IRREGULAR, 5 FT. OR MORE OF BEDROCK HAD TO BE REMOVED AT SOME PLACES IN ORDER TO HOLD AN EVEN GRADE IN THE DRIFTS. PLACERS PROBABLY AT WESTERN LIMIT OF MINERALIZED ZONE IN POORMAN AREA. ; MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS DEEPLY WEATHERED; APPARENTLY IT IS A CHERT GRIT.
Comment (Deposit): STREAM GRADIENT IN MINED AREA UNDER 50 FEET PER MILE. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT
