Comment (Location): USGS MF-396, LOC. 4, 5. PLACER DEPOSITS ALONG MASON CREEK JUST BELOW THE MOUTH OF HENDERSON AND BUSTER CREEKS. COORDINATES GIVEN FOR PLACER JUST BELOW THE MOUTH OF HENDERSON CREEK. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Development): INTERMITTANT SMALL-SCALE MINING OR PROSPECTING BETWEEN 1908 AND 1932 REPORTED. MINING BY OPEN-CUT METHODS. EXPLORED BY SEVERAL PROSPECT PITS AND DRILL HOLES.
Comment (Deposit): GOLD AND CASSITERITE IN BASAL PART OF MAINLY UNFROZEN CREEK AND BENCH GRAVELS AND IN THE TOP FEW FEET OF BEDROCK. JUST BELOW THE MOUTH OF HENDERSON CREEK PLACERS APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN LIMITED TO THE PRESENT CREEK GRAVEL DEPOSITS, ALTHOUGH SOME BENCH GRAVELS PROBABLY WERE MINED. GOLD BEARING GRAVELS AT AN UNKNOWN SITE ABOUT 5 FEET THICK. GROUND SAID TO AVERAGE 12 TO 20 FEET IN DEPTH; INCLUDES BOTH MUCK OVERBURDEN AND GRAVEL.
Comment (Workings): MOST OF BENCH GROUND IS UNFROZEN AND ALL OF THE GRAVEL IN THE VALLEY BOTTOM IS UNFROZEN AND WET.
Comment (Geology): MAJOR.UNITS: BEDROCK IS PALEOZOIC OR PRECAMBRIAN QUARTZ-SERICITE AND QUARTZ-CHLORITE SCHISTS CUT BY UNMINERALIZED WHITE QUARTZ VEINLETS AND LENSES. ; REG.COM: NO BEDROCK SOURCE OF EITHER GOLD OR CASSITERITE HAS BEEN FOUND.
Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.
