The Asik Mountain Occurrence is a chromium mine located in Alaska.
About the MRDS Data:
All mine locations were obtained from the USGS Mineral Resources Data System. The locations and other information in this database have not been verified for accuracy. It should be assumed that all mines are on private property.
Mine Info
Satelite View
MRDS mine locations are often very general, and in some cases are incorrect. Some mine remains have been covered or removed by modern industrial activity or by development of things like housing. The satellite view offers a quick glimpse as to whether the MRDS location corresponds to visible mine remains.

Comments
Comment (Geology): GEOLOGICAL AND GEOCHEMICAL WORK INDICATES THAT CHROMIUM, COPPER, NICKEL, AND PLATINUM-GROUP METALS ARE PRESENT AT ASIK MOUNTAIN. THE STRUCTURE IS COMPLEX, BUT GENERALLY IT APPEARS THAT THE LAYERED PLUTON HAS INTRUDED CARBONATE ROCKS OF POSSIBLE DEVONIAN AGE. THE CONTACT APPEARS TO BE NEARLY CONFORMABLE, INDICATING THAT THE INTRUSIVE MAY BE SILL-LIKE.
Comment (Deposit): THIS SITE NAME WAS CREATED BY THE REPORTER OR OTHER USGS EMPLOYEE BASED ON PROXIMITY TO SOME MAJOR GEOGRAPHIC FEATURE.
Comment (Location): DEPOSIT NEAR SW PART OF ASIK MTN. THE ASIK MOUNTAIN ULTRAMAFIC COMPLEX IS LOCATED ON NATIVE WITHDRAWAL LAND ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE LOWER NOATAK R. 18 MI. SE OF NOATAK. LAND STATUS VALUE CALCULATED 6-94 USING GIS OVERLAY ANALYSIS WITH BLM 1:2,500,000 SCALE OWNERSHIP STATUS MAP (1991).
Comment (Development): AREA BRIEFLY EXAMINED FOR MINERAL POTENTIAL BY WGM ON BEHALF OF THE NANA REGIONAL CORP. IN 1974.
Comment (Deposit): DISSEMINATED CHROMITE AND MAGNETITE IN DUNITE OF AN ULTRAMAFIC BODY WITH POORLY DEFINED LAYERING.
